Actor Chad Lowe and Wife Kim Painter Mourn Daughter Fiona, Who Died at Age 13

Actor Chad Lowe and producer Kim Painter are mourning the loss of their daughter, Fiona Hepler Lowe, who died at the age of 13.

The family confirmed Fiona’s death on Sept. 29 in a statement to People, but did not disclose the circumstances of her passing.

Their statement also encouraged anyone experiencing mental-health difficulties or emotional distress to seek help through the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

“We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona,” the family wrote, describing her as ”a loving young girl who was smart, creative, and loved to dance.”

“She was adored by her sisters and deeply loved by her parents,” the statement continued. “In fact, she was the light of our lives. Her passing is devastating for our entire family, and we ask for prayers and privacy at this time.”

Lowe and Painter, who tied the knot in 2010, had three daughters—Mabel, 17, Fiona, and Nixie, 10.

The girls were largely kept out of the public eye, with Lowe occasionally sharing glimpses of their lives together on social media.

Last year, Lowe marked Fiona’s 13th birthday with a heartfelt social media tribute. He celebrated her transition into her teens and encouraged her to “keep dancing through life.”

In January 2025, the Lowe family lost its Pacific Palisades home in the wildfires that devastated parts of Los Angeles. Lowe later shared photographs of the charred property and spoke about returning to the site with his daughters.

“Almost a month after we evacuated, our girls finally got to go back to see what’s left of their home,” he wrote on Instagram at the time. “The way they’ve handled this whole devastating experience is nothing short of remarkable.”

He said he was “in awe of their spirit and resilience.”

“Helping them navigate these tough times is my sole purpose. Being their dad is my life’s greatest joy and privilege.”

Lowe, is best known for his roles in popular television series, including “Life Goes On,” “24,” “ER” and “Pretty Little Liars.” He is also the younger brother of actor Rob Lowe.

Tributes from friends and entertainers alike began pouring in following the news of Fiona’s death. Cary Elwes, who appeared with Lowe and his brother Rob in the 1984 film “Oxford Blues,” expressed his heartbreak for the family under Lowe’s most recent Instagram post, saying he was keeping them in his thoughts and prayers.

Longtime friend Marlee Matlin shared a message of support, writing on X that her heart was “broken into pieces” while sending love to Lowe and Painter.
