Gan Jing World’s first original animated series, “Monkey King Adventures,” will premiere on Oct. 2 exclusively on the company’s GJW+ streaming service and its Gan Jing Kids platform.

The fantasy-adventure series draws from “Journey to the West,” a Chinese classic first published in the 16th century and inspired by a pilgrimage more than 1,300 years ago. The story has remained familiar to adults and children across Asia for centuries.

The first season, titled “Monkey King Adventures: The Rise of the King,” centers on Sun Wukong, a young monkey born from a magical stone. As he becomes the Monkey King, Sun Wukong develops unusual powers, confronts demons, dragons, and gods, and learns through his errors.

Gan Jing World said the production, which will span multiple seasons, preserves the source story’s spirit while recasting the sweeping tale as an accessible magical adventure for children from different cultural backgrounds.

“With ‘Monkey King Adventures,’ we’re building a multi-season animated world on an epic scale, filled with hundreds of characters and countless adventures,” Gan Jing World CEO Sherry Yin said. “But at its heart, the story is deeply personal: Through 81 trials, the Monkey King discovers that true strength comes from wisdom, resilience, and self-cultivation. His greatest triumph is not in conquering Heaven and Earth, but in who he becomes along the way.”

Series director Jian Lun Lu said the production is intended to introduce the enduring story to a new generation and give families something they can watch together. According to Lu, Sun Wukong’s pride, desire for recognition, embarrassment over mistakes, and occasional loneliness reflect experiences children understand.

“We want children to stay excited and curious about what the Monkey King will do next and, through his adventures, discover the kindness, humility, and inner growth at the heart of ‘Journey to the West,’” Lu said.

The first season will contain 12 episodes, each running 10 minutes. The first two episodes will be offered free, while viewers will need a GJW+ subscription to see the remaining installments. After the Oct. 2 debut, one new episode will arrive each week.

A GJW+ membership also provides full access to Gan Jing Kids. Gan Jing World describes the children’s service as an advertising-free streaming and education platform with more than 6,000 movies and shows, along with material covering language arts, math, and science.

According to the company, Gan Jing Kids uses a three-part safety system combining artificial intelligence detection, human review, and educator curation. The platform has no comment sections, chats with strangers, or recommendation features designed to encourage compulsive viewing.

GJW+ carries more than 10,000 movies, documentaries, television programs, and children’s offerings. The U.S. company said its broader video-sharing platform emphasizes family-safe, nonaddictive material, privacy, and values including kindness, respect, and trust.

Gan Jing World launched on July 4, 2022, and recorded 100 million unique visitors by December 2025. Its other products include Gan Jing Cloud, Gan Jing Browser, and Gan Jing Meeting. These services, respectively, support secure cloud storage, privacy-minded web browsing, and reliable online video meetings.
