Masks are making a comeback—or at least Democrats, public health types, universities and media bodies want them to make a comeback.

And their efforts have been somewhat successful, as we can all see a definite uptick in how many people we see wearing masks at the grocery store, on the bus or subway, or even sitting alone in their cars.

But why is this happening—again? What has changed? Is there really a terrible new COVID surge? And would it matter anyway, since masks have already been shown to be completely useless? Or is there new evidence that they somehow, miraculously, work now?
