‘It’s Completely Out of Control’: Sheriff Brad Coe on the Worsening Border Crisis

Kinney County is a small county of around 3,600 located along the U.S.-Mexico border nestled in between the cities of Del Rio and Eagle Pass. In April 2021, the county declared a state of emergency because of the influx of illegal immigrants coming across the southern border. While most of them eventually pass through Kinney County on their way to other destinations, their presence is taking a toll on the small community. Hunting and ranching are two of the biggest sources of income in Kinney County, and both industries are being disrupted by illegal immigrants who cut fences and break into buildings.

Kinney County Sheriff Brad Coe has been raising alarm for years—especially as the influx of human smugglers being captured has spiked in recent years. He joins us now to update us on what’s happening at the border.
