Combat Heart Disease, Inflammation With Olive Oil, Vitamin D, Other Polyphenols—Feat. Dr. Gerald Lemole

Over 40 million Americans take statins to lower cholesterol, which can form plaques in the arteries that, in turn, can lead to heart disease and stroke. But is there a key piece missing from this equation—a bodily system that can be leveraged to bring a more natural solution to heart disease?

Watch our exclusive episode, only on NTD.

Dr. Gerald Lemole was among the surgeons who performed America’s first heart transplants. Although the procedures were initially successful, each early transplant patient died due to the plaques that formed in their arteries. How had this happened so rapidly to patients with young hearts and good arteries?

“There were these little white streaks in the coronary artery patients,” recalls Dr. Lemole.

“So we biopsied those streaks, and sure enough, they were … scarred up lymphatic vessels that were being blocked through chronic inflammation.”

Dr. Lemole’s search for the answer led him to a missing piece in our understanding of health—the role of the lymphatic system in preventing chronic disease. On Vital Signs with Brendon Fallon, Dr. Lemole explains how the lymphatic system works and how it can be enhanced through polyphenols, diet, exercise, and other lifestyle approaches.
