The Strange Story Behind the Origin of the TikTok Bill | Truth Over News
One of the more oddly timed bills brought before Congress is the TikTok Bill, which was ostensibly designed to remove control of the company—and access to Americans’ data—from the the clutches of the Chinese Communist Party. On the face of things, the bill sounds great—force the shutdown or sale of TikTok and remove a huge CCP-controlled social engineering and data-scraping tool from the American market. Who wouldn’t be in favor of that?
It seemed like most everyone in Congress, across both sides of the aisle, was in support of the bill. Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) went so far as to breathlessly claim that if you weren’t in favor of the TikTok Bill you were doing the bidding of China. He wrote on X, “Voting against this bill is a vote for the Chinese Communist Party. The opponents of this bill aren’t defending free speech, they’re defending Chinese access to American data and American minds. Not a good look.”
