Supreme Court Upholds TikTok Ban; Kristi Noem Faces Questions on National Security Risks

The Supreme Court on Friday declined to rescue TikTok from a law that requires the short video app to be sold by its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, or be banned in the United States—starting Sunday—on national security grounds. President-elect Donald Trump said on Friday that he has spoken with Chinese leader Xi Jinping about the matter.

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, Trump’s nominee to lead the Department of Homeland Security, faced senators at a confirmation hearing on Friday. In her opening remarks, Noem said Americans felt less safe in their own country and vowed that “President-elect Trump is going to change that.”

President Joe Biden announced on Friday that the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) is ratified—despite the U.S. archivist recently saying the president could not ratify the constitutional amendment.
