Faith, Family, and Flying: Lt. Col. Darin Gaub’s Lifetime of Military Service | NTD’s Profiles of Service

For Darin Gaub, 9/11 was the day that turned a military career into a lifetime of military service. He was soon deployed to Afghanistan, where a Blackhawk helicopter he was flying was badly damaged by an enemy rocket, leaving him with a tough decision.

“You make a risk decision. Do I stay out here in the middle of enemy territory, or do I fly this thing and hope that it stays together?” Gaub told NTD.

Gaub says his faith in God gives him the strength and wisdom to handle those types of situations. And his love for America is what kept him going throughout his almost 30 years of military service.

“I believe in this country’s ideals, in the idea of liberty and freedom and personal responsibility, so much that I think it is worth sacrificing ourselves to preserve that,” he said.

Today, Gaub uses his life experience to help others get through tough times, survive as a family, or raise kids. He’s also a respected geopolitical strategist, regularly appearing on the nation’s top news networks.

“Profiles of Service” is an NTD News series that features the men and women who have chosen to dedicate themselves to public service. We ask them about the challenges and rewards, why public service matters, and what inspiration they can offer the next generation of potential leaders.
