The longest government shutdown in U.S. history could come to an end tonight—if the House of Representatives passes the Senate-reached deal to reopen the government in a final vote and it’s signed by the president. Meanwhile, some House Democrats say they’re ready to reject the deal, with some even calling for Democratic Senate Leader Chuck Schumer to step down.
President Donald Trump has expressed confidence that the bill will pass, as the White House blames Democrats for the effects of the shutdown. Meanwhile, Trump is doubling down on another fight, saying he has an obligation to sue the BBC for defamation over edits to his Jan. 6, 2021, speech.
