Changing course on the release of files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, President Donald Trump says he would sign legislation compelling the Department of Justice to release the federal documents if such a bill passes the House and Senate and reaches his desk. He’s also calling on House Republicans to vote in favor of releasing the files, saying Republicans have nothing to hide.

The president also announced that he will likely issue tariff dividend checks sometime in the middle of next year. Meanwhile, he says he’s open to speaking directly with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro as he weighs a decision on whether to launch strikes in Venezuela against drug traffickers in the country.

The Supreme Court says it will hear a case deciding whether the United States must process asylum claims from people attempting to cross the U.S.–Mexico border. The case will examine whether the wording in federal law—requiring claims to be heard from someone who “arrives in” the United States—extends to individuals who arrive at the border but have not yet crossed over.
