Trump to Send Border Czar Tom Homan to Minnesota; Winter Storm Snarls US Travel, Death Toll Rises
President Donald Trump is sending border czar Tom Homan to Minnesota on Jan. 26, following the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti by a federal officer in Minneapolis. “Tom is tough but fair, and will report directly to me,” Trump wrote in a social media post.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a Jan. 26 post on X that Homan would manage Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations in the state.
A powerful winter storm sweeping across much of the United States forced airlines to cancel thousands of flights and delay hundreds on Jan. 26, as freezing rain and heavy snowfall disrupted travel and snarled transportation networks. About 3,800 flights were canceled, and over 1,000 were delayed as of early Monday, according to flight-tracking website FlightAware, following more than 11,000 cancellations reported on Sunday. The weather has been blamed for the deaths of at least nine people.
