Wall Street Veteran on Why Japan’s Yen Matters to US Markets | Mark Malek
The United States just stepped into the Japanese yen market, turning what can look like a distant foreign-exchange story into a much larger question for American markets. Why did Washington care enough about a move in the yen to get involved?
The connection runs deeper than the exchange rate. For years, conditions in Japan and the United States were linked through a channel most households had little reason to notice. Now that channel is under strain, reaching parts of the U.S. economy most people would never connect to the yen.
Mark Malek, chief investment officer at Siebert Financial and a Wall Street veteran of more than 35 years, joins us to explain why Washington stepped into a foreign currency market and what sits behind a financial connection most Americans rarely have reason to watch.
