Safety Concerns
This is not the agency’s first attempt to address safety concerns as crime, drugoverdose deaths, and homeless concerns have increased over the last few years.
Drug Enforcement Administration said in a December 2024 press release that more than 107,000 people died from drugoverdose in 2023, with nearly 70 percent of those deaths linked to opioids such as fentanyl.
Drugoverdose is another factor that can lead to sudden death during sleep. Some medications used to treat arrhythmias, high blood pressure, and depression can potentially induce arrhythmias.
Between 2013 and 2020, overdose numbers increased by 18 times, the CDC noted.
Some states even want to classify the distribution of fentanyl linked to drugoverdoses as a felony, as previously reported.

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that has led to a significant uptick in drugoverdoses across the United States in recent years, according to federal officials.
