The news comes as China is mounting pressure on Canada to release Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou, who was arrested in Vancouver under a request by U.S. authorities.

Canadian officials have complained the two men are being held in retaliation for the arrest of Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou under an extradition request from the United States.

McCallum apologized last week for misspeaking about the extradition case of Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou, who was arrested on Dec. 1 in Vancouver at the request of the United States, which wants to extradite her on fraud charges.
