The Pentagon asked miners in early 2019 to outline plans to develop rareearths projects and processing facilities, according to documents seen by Reuters.

“That's why the world is looking to Canada, because Canada has incredible amounts of the critical minerals and the rareearth elements that the world needs,” he said.
"We need those rareearthminerals."
According to her, Haines's economy is not just about mining.
"The tourism industry has incredible potential, but Haines is not Skagway," she said, referring to a tourism community 19 miles to the north.

The Chinese communist regime has weaponized its monopoly on critical minerals such as rareearths, causing a negative impact on the global supply chain.
In response to Pyongyang's ballistic missile tests, the UN in 2016 imposed sanctions that prohibit North Korea from supplying, directly or indirectly, "gold, titanium ore, vanadium ore, and rareearthminerals" and said all states should bar their nationals
Rare-earth elements and other minerals extracted from that waste are crucial to producing items like batteries and solar panels.

If the status quo is allowed to stand, it will help perpetuate China’s near-monopoly on 17 rare-earthminerals that are key components in an array of commercial and military devices.
Everything from F-35 fighter aircraft to cellphones depends on rareearths, as do critical space technologies, electronics, and semiconductors. Of the 50 minerals designated as critical by the U.S. Geological Survey, 17 are considered rareearths.
