He's now under investigation by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) and National Supervisory Commission, the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) internal anti-corruption watchdogs.

The CCDI has been the driving force behind Xi’s campaign to rid the Party of political enemies—namely officials still loyal to former CCP leader Jiang Zemin.

On Nov. 23, the CCDI announced that Liaoning vice governor Liu Qiang was being investigated, making him the second tiger to be taken down.

Unlike the CCDI, the commission has prosecutorial powers, and can charge both Party and non-Party members.

Wang was head of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), an internal graft-busting agency that became the driving force for Xi to rid the Party of political enemies—namely, Jiang faction officials.

This is the first time the CCDI has taken over the task.
