Planned Parenthood clinics provide services other than abortions—such as birth control and pregnancy testing—to Medicaid recipients.

The decision came as the White House and Congressional Republicans moved to defund Planned Parenthood at the federal level.

A lawsuit filed by Planned Parenthood after the signing of the bill featured the group’s description of the law’s defunding provision as directed toward “a set made up almost entirely of Planned Parenthood Members.”

The new legal complaint in Planned Parenthood Federation of America Inc. v. Kennedy was filed in federal district court in Boston. The lead plaintiff, Planned Parenthood Federation, is suing on behalf of its 47 member organizations.

Planned Parenthood South Atlantic case at 10 a.m. ET on April 2. The case examines South Carolina barring the abortion provider from participating in the state’s Medicaid program.

While the law does not name Planned Parenthood, the organization said the wording outlined in the bill “exactly match[es] the description of Planned Parenthood.”

The Supreme Court on April 2 weighed whether South Carolina can stop abortion provider Planned Parenthood from taking part in the state’s Medicaid program.

The lawsuit was filed by the Comprehensive Health of Planned Parenthood Great Plains and Planned Parenthood Great Rivers-Missouri.

In the lawsuit filed on July 7, the Planned Parenthood Federation said Section 71113 does not mention Planned Parenthood by name.

“To the extent that you’re getting any services at all in a Planned Parenthood clinic, [those services are] not very good,” he said, citing recent reports of the deteriorating facilities and care at various Planned Parenthood clinics.

Supreme Court stated on Dec. 18 that it will consider whether South Carolina can stop Planned Parenthood from taking part in the state’s Medicaid program. The court granted the petition in Kerr v. Planned Parenthood in an unsigned order.

Planned Parenthood and Planned Parenthood Great Plains did not respond to multiple requests for comment from The Epoch Times.
