Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni didn’t hide from the unknowns surrounding star wide receiver A.J. Brown, which will only fuel speculation about the three-time All-Pro’s future.
“Will A.J. be here next season?” Sirianni told reporters on Tuesday at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. “I think we’re still in a spot, like, I can’t guarantee how anything is going to play out into next season. I’m thinking I’m going to be the coach next season, but you can’t guarantee anything past tomorrow.”
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman likewise didn’t express confidence in Brown’s future with the team. Brown has been with the Eagles since a 2022 trade with the Tennessee Titans during the draft, and he has 339 receptions for 5,034 yards and 32 touchdowns in an Eagles uniform.
“I think you go into the league year listening to offers for everything and anything,” Roseman said. “Without getting into specifics on any player, we’re always listening, and we’re always kind of open.”
Brown helped the Eagles win a Super Bowl in the 2024 season, but things have since gone south. He has voiced his frustrations with the Eagles publicly, and Brown had a heated sideline incident with Sirianni during the Wild Card loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
While that has stoked trade rumors, Brown will cost a lot amid a three-year $96 million contract extension with the Eagles. He’s 29 and still a top-tier wideout in the league, so here are teams that could trade for Brown.
New England Patriots
The world saw why this would be a good move as of three weeks ago when the Patriots offense looked helpless for much of the Super Bowl.
After Stefon Diggs, the Patriots don’t have a true second go-to wideout. Diggs had 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns, and he could actually become the second guy if the Patriots land Brown in a trade.
Brown had 78 receptions for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns last season, and he would join another team that boasts an MVP contender. Patriots quarterback Drake Maye was a finalist for MVP, and he elevated the offense for much of the season, but the talent level of the receivers showed in the postseason as Maye managed only a 58.3 percent completion rate.
In addition, the Patriots have a strong connection to Brown in head coach Mike Vrabel, who coached Brown with the Titans. Brown thinks highly of Vrabel.
“When I say he holds every single player accountable from top to bottom, I don’t care who it is, like that’s who he is,” Brown said during the “Dudes on Dudes” podcast with former Patriots stars Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman. “And it makes the team come together because nobody is bigger than the team.”
New England also has the money with $37.45 million in salary cap space.
Buffalo Bills
Bills quarterback Josh Allen didn’t have a No. 1 wideout last season, and it showed.
The Bills haven’t fielded a 1,000-yard receiver since Diggs left via a trade with the Houston Texans in 2023. Brown could fill that void and give Allen a playmaking wideout who can make catches on short routes and haul in deep balls.
It’s a priority for the Bills since running back James Cook ran the ball 309 times last season, and that’s a recipe for burning out a back. Adding Brown would take a load off of Cook offensively, and it would take pressure off of tight ends Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox.
Baltimore Ravens
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson hasn’t enjoyed a true No. 1 receiver in his successful career with the team.
That could change by adding Brown, which would allow other Ravens receivers to fulfill their roles better, too. Zay Flowers reached 1,211 yards and five touchdowns last season, but his size at 5-foot-9 and 182 pounds necessitates big-bodied wideouts such as Brown to complement him.
If teams keyed in on Brown, Flowers could produce more in short routes than before.
Los Angeles Chargers
Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is another AFC star who doesn’t have a true No. 1 wideout to target.
The Chargers have $87 million of salary cap space to go after Brown with, and that could solve a glaring need. Chargers wideouts Keenan Allen, Ladd McConkey, and Quentin Johnston all had at least 800 yards, and the addition of Brown could heighten that.
It’s also possible the Chargers could lose Allen in free agency, and landing Brown could more than make up for a potential hole.
Adding Brown could give Herbert a serious deep threat and take the load off of Chargers running back Omarion Hampton.
Other Contenders for AJ Brown
Numerous other teams could make a trade offer for Brown, especially contenders needing a true No. 1 wideout or a team with a young quarterback.
The Kansas City Chiefs could go all-in for Brown and give quarterback Patrick Mahomes the best wideout of his career. In addition, that could help alleviate tight end Travis Kelce retiring, if he chooses to.
The Las Vegas Raiders need a star wide receiver, especially if drafting Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza with the No. 1 pick. That would also complement tight end Brock Bowers in the passing game.
The San Francisco 49ers could unload beleaguered star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk to the Eagles and land Brown, which would give quarterback Brock Purdy the best wideout of his young career.
The Los Angeles Rams could move on from Davante Adams because of salary cap space, which could require a need for Brown. That would give Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford a big target to pair with Puka Nacua.
