Nearly 17,000 Jeep and Volkswagen Vehicles Recalled Across Canada for Crash-Risk Issues

Recalls have been issued across Canada for nearly 17,000 Jeep and Volkswagen vehicles over issues that could increase the risk of crash for certain models.

Volkswagen has issued a recall for 10,000 of its 2025 compact Tiguan SUVs and Fiat Chrysler is recalling more than 6,500 Jeep Wagoneers.

Volkswagen’s recall for 10,435 Tiguan SUVs is due to a software problem that could cause the body control module to reset while driving.

The software issue could make the ignition switch off and cause a loss of power to the wheels, the recall posted by Transport Canada said. It could also cause a loss of some controls, warning lights, and malfunction tell-tales, as well as the rearview camera system.

“A loss of power to the wheels, exterior lights that don’t work, and/or controls, warnings and tell-tales that don’t display could increase the risk of a crash,” the advisory said. “A rearview camera image that doesn’t display could reduce a driver’s ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up, which could also increase the risk of a crash.”

Volkswagen said it will notify all impacted vehicle owners by mail to advise them to take their SUVs to a dealership to update the BCM software. Owners can also check here to see if their vehicle is being recalled.

Jeep Recalls

Fiat Chrysler is recalling 6,537 Jeep Wagoneers and Grand Wagoneers across multiple model years due to safety issues with crossbars.

Pivot bolts securing the crossbars to the roof of the vehicles may not be tightened properly, the advisory on Transport Canada said.

“As a result, the crossbar(s) could detach from the vehicle,” the notice said. “A crossbar that detaches from the vehicle could create a road hazard for others and increase the risk of a crash.”

The Wagoneer L models from 2022 to 2025 and the Grand Wagoneer L models from 2022 to 2026 are all part of the recall, according to the advisory from Fiat Chrysler, which acquired Jeep in 2014. Both companies are now part of the Stellantis Group.

The company said it would send a notice to affected vehicle owners by mail, advising them to take their vehicles to a dealership to inspect the roof crossbars and secure them if needed.
