KEELUNG, Taiwan—Keelung Municipal Councilor Mr. Chen Chi-Cheng and his wife watched Shen Yun Performing Arts on the evening of March 23. Mr. Chen praised Shen Yun as “the unmatchable performance that makes my heart and soul throb.”
New York-based Shen Yun aims to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture through music and dance, according to the company’s website.
“The choreography is a great success and each artist shows solid basic skills. Their postures and movements were artistic and charming. They looked elegant and showed great depth. Through dancing, they successfully interpreted various moods and different atmospheres. The dances of rainbow skirts [in Inspired Dance of the Yi] and the feathered dress in The Emperor Journeys to the Moon makes me feel like I was in the realm of a dream,” said Mr. Chen, in speaking of specific dances in the performance.
Ms. Chen loved the light silk costumes of the female artist:, “I love Ancient Elegance. Their movements were so light and feminine. The floating clothing was absolutely enchanting.”
“Shen Yun is different from other dance groups. The artists have real skills and not just showing their muscles. Their costumes were so fine and superior and focused on the inner spirit. I believe Shen Yun will touch a lot of peoples’ hearts!” Mr. Chen concluded.
The Citizens of Keelung Are Truly Blessed
Two current Keelung Municipal Councilors Mr. Chen Tung-Tsai and Mr. Chang Han-Tu ran into each other at Shen Yun’s third performance on March 22. It was their first time watching the performance.
Mr. Chen said, “The citizens of Keelung are truly blessed to be able to see such a great performance.” Mr. Chang agreed, “Shen Yun is a world-class group and definitely worth seeing.”
Shen Yun, based in New York, brings 5,000 years of China’s divinely inspired culture to the stage. Principally, it relies on classical Chinese dance to depict ancient legends and myths.
Mr. Chen praised the artists’ exquisite dancing skills: “They are so professional like they have had the training for a long time.”
He was especially impressed with the backdrop animation technology in Sand Monk Is Blessed, “The animation and the live music matched the dancing movements flawlessly. It was fantastic! This evening’s show is unparalleled!”
“Shen Yun is truly a world-class performance. I hope everyone can hold on to this once in a lifetime opportunity and see it for himself,” Mr. Chang added.
Mr. Chang especially liked the first and last program, “The Buddha images on the backdrop are very solemn.” “The programs are very well designed and full of imagination. Wonderful!”
“The music is so pleasing to the ear, and it matches the dancing so perfectly,” Mr. Chang said, admired the live orchestra.
“Shen Yun manifests the essence of Chinese culture and is a brilliant presentation. It is definitely helpful for the young people and inspiring for everyone,” Mr. Chang concluded.
