Death of Presley Gerber, Son of Cindy Crawford, Being Investigated as Suspected Overdose

The death of 27-year-old model Presley Gerber is being investigated as a suspected overdose, according to the Santa Monica Police Department, which said there is currently no indication of foul play.

On Sept. 20, police said officers responded to reports of a possible overdose at the 1000 block of Berkeley Street in Santa Monica, where they found an adult male deceased upon arrival.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner later identified the man as Gerber, the only son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber.

In a news release issued on Sept. 21, Santa Monica police said detectives were investigating Gerber’s death as a suspected overdose.

The department cautioned, however, as it’s in the early stages of its investigation, that the official cause and manner of death had not yet been established and would be determined by the county medical examiner.

In a separate statement, the medical examiner’s office said an examination had been conducted, but the cause and manner of death were deferred pending additional testing or studies. The agency said such cases can take months before a final determination is made.

Gerber died on Sept. 20 at a Los Angeles rehab facility. His death was confirmed by a family representative, who asked for privacy during “this very difficult and painful time.”

Born in California in 1999, Gerber was known professionally in the fashion and entertainment industry, following in his famous family’s footsteps. His younger sister, Kaia Gerber, has also established a career as a model and actor.

Gerber began modeling as a teenager and worked with major fashion brands including Dolce & Gabbana, Celine, and Calvin Klein, among others.

He made his runway debut in 2016 at Moschino’s Resort show in Los Angeles, and two years later, appeared alongside his mother Cindy Crawford in a Pepsi commercial that aired during the Super Bowl.

In recent years, Gerber had spoken publicly about mental health and substance-use struggles, using social media to launch “Mental Health Mondays,” a series in which he candidly shared his experiences.

During a 2023 appearance on the “Studio 22” podcast, Gerber spoke about his desire to use his own experiences with mental health struggles to connect with and support others, adding he hoped to create a space where people could seek help without fear of judgment.

“That’s really what I want to do: help people, whether you’re depressed, you’re struggling with something that is having a negative effect on your body,” he said at the time. “I mean it could be anything, and there’s no judgment.”
