Country singer Jason Aldean and his wife, Brittany, paid tribute to their friend Charlie Kirk with a heartfelt duet, two weeks after the conservative commentator was assassinated while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University.

The couple took to social media on Sept. 23, sharing a black-and-white video clip of the two singing a cover of Luke Bryan’s 2013 hit “Drink a Beer,” with a caption that read: “For Charlie” with a red heart emoji.

Jason Aldean, 48, is seen sitting on a countertop playing the song on his acoustic guitar while Brittany Aldean, 37, a former “American Idol” contestant, sang harmony.

“Funny how the good ones go too soon / But the good Lord knows / The reasons why I guess,” they took turns singing in the opening lines.

“Sometimes the greater plan / Is kinda hard to understand / Right now it don’t make sense / I can’t make it all make sense.”

Bryan’s song tells the story of a man who receives news of the unexpected loss of a loved one and how he copes.

The video also featured a photo of the couple embracing at his memorial service at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on Sept. 21.

Brittany Aldean recapped her experience from attending the service, highlighting the “overwhelming” impact Kirk made on her life and the lives of so many others.

“They keep saying ‘live like Charlie,’ so I’m going to really try to do that daily,” she said in a now-deleted Instagram story.

“His death does feel like—everyone said in the service—a revival. It’s putting more people in touch with their faith, and just making such a difference in so many different lives.”

The event saw an emotional eulogy from Kirk’s widow, Erika, and a number of high-profile speakers including President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and cabinet members, along with a musical tribute from country singer Lee Greenwood.

“There was just a different plan that was greater for him that God knew,” she said. “It left me feeling more positive after the service, and he’s obviously so missed.”

Meanwhile, the five-time Grammy nominee was among many other celebrities who have publicly mourned Kirk after his death on Sept. 10.

“Charlie Kirk was one of the kindest, smartest, and bravest people I’ve ever met,” Jason Aldean captioned an Instagram photo alongside his wife and Kirk.

“He was a man of peace and wanted nothing but the best for our country and its youth. We might have lost Charlie today but what he has done will live on forever.”

The following day, he also honored Kirk during his show in Detroit, Michigan, and dedicated his song “Try That in a Small Town,” which Kirk defended when controversy arose during its 2023 release.

“An amazing person by the name of Charlie Kirk was murdered yesterday in Utah,” he told fans. “One of the best people ever.”

“This is not the guy you go after, is what I’m trying to say. And it’s a weird country that we live in, when you start taking people out because you disagree with their opinions. That’s not what we’re about here.”
