Anti-Cancer: Plants Versus Meds in Activating Immune Shield

What if there’s more to cancer treatment than “attacking the tumor?”

On “Vital Signs,” herbalist and certified nutritionist Donnie Yance lays out a very different way of thinking about cancer—one that steps away from “war against tumors” language to look at the whole person instead.

Yance has spent decades working with advanced stage 3 and 4 cancer patients. In this interview, he explains why he doesn’t start with the tumor. He starts with the terrain—the immune system, nutrient balance, stress levels, blood chemistry, even the nervous system. 

According to Yance, cancer thrives when the body’s internal environment is disrupted. Change the environment, and you may change the outcome.


He discusses medicinal mushrooms backed by human studies, how chronic stress can influence tumor progression, and why some modern oncology approaches are beginning to explore lower-dose, more adaptive treatment models. He also talks about combining herbal and nutritional strategies alongside conventional care—not as an alternative, but as part of a broader system.
