Trump Suggests US Takeover of Gaza; Senate Confirms Pam Bondi as US Attorney General
President Donald Trump held an official press conference on Tuesday where he was joined by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Their meeting came as mediators began working on the second phase of the cease-fire between Israel and the Hamas terrorist organization. Trump floated the idea of the United States taking control of the Gaza Strip and developing it into an international community, with jobs and homes for Palestinians, a suggestion that has drawn criticism from many quarters.
The Senate has confirmed Pam Bondi as the next U.S. attorney general and Doug Collins as secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs. The Senate Finance Committee voted on Tuesday to advance the nomination of RFK Jr. to become the next secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services. Tulsi Gabbard, Trump’s nominee for director of national intelligence, also received a favorable vote before the Senate Intelligence Committee.
Officials have confirmed that the bodies of all 67 victims killed in the plane crash over the Potomac River near Washington have been recovered, with 66 of them now positively identified. Crews also began lifting large pieces of the wreckage of the American Airlines passenger plane from the river and will begin work on recovering the Army helicopter later this week. Investigations into the incident are still underway and the NTSB said it hopes to release a preliminary report within 30 days.
