Colombia Agrees to Take Citizens Back After Tariff Threat; Israel and Hamas Reach Hostage Agreement

A near-damaging U.S.–Colombia trade war is now averted after Colombia’s president backed down from his initial resistance to two U.S. military flights carrying deported Colombians.

“The government of Colombia has agreed to all of President [Donald] Trump’s terms,” the White House stated late on Sunday. “He expects all other nations of the world to fully cooperate in accepting the deportation of their citizens illegally present in the United States.”

A crisis is averted in the Middle East after Qatar said Hamas has agreed to release an Israeli hostage. Israel said the release was delayed, putting the fragile cease-fire at risk. Israel has now started to allow Palestinians to return to their homes in northern Gaza.

Southern California’s wildfires are almost fully contained. Cal-Fire says three major fires are more than 90 percent contained. This weekend’s rain was a welcome relief for firefighters, but it also brought with it dangerous mudslides. Debris from the fire is being washed away as water flows over the charred soil.
