Key Primaries Taking Place in 6 States; Trump Persuades Netanyahu to Call Off Beirut Strike | NTD Good Morning (June 2)

Several primary races are taking place across the United States on Tuesday. The biggest item of the night will be the litany of races in California, the nation’s largest state. Others will be held in Iowa, Montana, New Mexico, New Jersey, and South Dakota. The race to replace outgoing Gov. Gavin Newsom is one of the most-watched in the nation.

That race will be a nonpartisan primary, where only the top two candidates will move to November’s ballot, even if it’s two candidates of the same party. The two Democratic frontrunners are former Health Secretary Xavier Becerra and billionaire Tom Steyer. The top Republican candidates are TV show host Steve Hilton and Sheriff Chad Bianco. President Donald Trump has thrown his support behind Hilton.

Trump says negotiations between Washington and Tehran are moving ahead “at a rapid pace,” and that he believes a deal with Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and a ceasefire extension could soon be reached. The president also says that Israel and Hezbollah will halt attacks after a weekend flare-up in fighting. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wrote on X that he told Trump that Israel would continue to strike terror targets in Beirut if Hezbollah continues attacking Israeli cities and civilians.

A curfew is now in effect around Newark’s Delaney Hall detention center after a series of intense clashes between protesters and police. The curfew around Delaney Hall will be in place between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. until further notice, Mayor Ras Baraka said in a statement.
