CENTCOM: US Carried Out Self-Defense Strikes in Iran; Key Texas Primary Runoffs Today | NTD Good Morning (May 26)
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) says the U.S. military carried out “self-defense strikes” in southern Iran on Monday.
It says the strikes targeted Iranian missile launch sites and were intended to protect U.S. troops from threats posed by Iranian forces.
President Donald Trump said that negotiations with Iran are progressing, and he’s now looking to turn a potential deal into a broader Middle East peace push, urging Arab nations to join the Abraham Accords, and calling on countries including Saudi Arabia and Qatar to normalize ties with Israel.
Texas will hold several runoff elections on Tuesday, in which voters will finalize their choices for key congressional races.
The most-watched race will be the Republican primary for U.S. Senate between Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and incumbent Senator John Cornyn.
There will also be a Democratic primary in the 18th district between Congressman Al Green and Rep. Christian Menefee. Texas will also be choosing a new attorney general this cycle, with a Republican runoff between Congressman Chip Roy and state Sen. Mayes Middleton.
