California continues being a battleground on education and parentalrights. Two new state bills could change the face of how classrooms run. NTD’s David Lam reports.
Parentalbillsofrights have emerged in many other states as well, as contentious school board meetings have led parents to believe their voices were being silenced.
John Kavanagh, the bill’s sponsor, accused Hobbs of siding with “woke ideology” over the rightsofparents.
“Parents should determine what’s best for their children, not school employees,” said Kavanagh.
The revised bill, which was approved at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, is aimed at strengthening the procedural rightsof minors in domestic litigation, the ministry said in a statement.
If Republicans take the House, McCarthy promised a long-touted "parentsbillofrights," which McCarthy said would ensure that "parents have a say in their children's education."
The issue has increasingly become a rallying cry for Republicans.
Schools should not be in the business of going behind parents’ backs,” says the policy.
A related proposal calls for a billofparentalrights, which recognizes parental involvement as primary before the state.
Part of his parentalrights platform involves parents' ability to opt out of gender ideology in schools, which are required to inform parents on issues such as gender dysphoria.
The proposal specifically stated that the bill would be “in accordance with state and federal law” to avoid a confrontation with Florida's parentalrights law.

Ron DeSantis, a Republican, proposed an “AI BillofRights” establishing privacy and parental-control rules, and he denounced federal preemption as “a subsidy to Big Tech.”
Disney Opposing ParentalRightsBill
The ParentalRights in Education Act was signed by DeSantis in March 2022. Activists insisted that the law harms LGBT children. Initially, Disney had taken a center course on the debate.
Kelly, a Democrat, vetoed the bill on Feb. 11, saying that it infringes on parentalrights and warning of economic consequences. “Infringing on parentalrights is not appropriate, nor is it a Kansas value,” she said in a statement at the time.
Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park), a former vice principal at an elementary school, said the danger of informing all parents about changes in gender identity is that “not all parents do the right thing.”
Wild, who testified against the bill, said, "Passing this bill takes away parentalrights. Parentalrights are fundamental rights and are not limited to education, medical care, and moral upbringing.
The legal dispute was initially sparked by former CEO Bob Chapek’s criticism of Florida’s ParentalRights in Education Bill, or HB 1557 which was signed into law by DeSantis on March 28 and reinforces parents' rights to make decisions regarding the upbringing
Dreyfus said the bill recognised the importance of the relationship between a child and both of their parents and would ensure the court continued to take this into account when making parenting orders.
The bill essentially grants shelters the right to not notify parentsof minors when the children flee homes where gender transitioning is not accepted. “Every child—including our trans youth—deserves to be safe at home.
Youngkin said this bill “creates an overly broad cause of action against political subdivisions and parents, as well as medical professionals acting in their expert judgment and within their scope of practice.”
Vernadette Broyles, president and chief counsel of Child and ParentalRights Campaign, told The Epoch Times that in her view, parents have to guard against psychological manipulation at the hands of their own children.
"The Canadian Charter ofRights and Freedoms protects Canadians from both laws and actions of the federal and provincial governments. The Alberta Human Rights Act applies to actions of the private sector," reads a summary of the bill.
California is on track to ban schools from notifying parentsof their child's pronoun change. The California Senate on Thursday approved the controversial legislation as the bill faced legal challenges over parentalrights.
On Oct. 12, the ruling Saskatchewan Party tabled Bill 137, dubbed the ParentalRightsBill, requiring schools to seek parental consent if a student under the age of 16 wants to change gender pronouns or identity.
Many of the protesters outside the conference at Chelsea Piers held signs objecting to the governor’s appearance during Pride month, citing his ParentalRights in Education bill, or the “Don’t Say Gay Bill” as critics have dubbed it.
Bill Dunlap, another parentalrights advocate, criticized district officials for what he called a lack of transparency that led to the public records act request in the first place.
