Music City will become host city of The Big Game, as Nashville was selected as a future host of the Super Bowl. The capital and most populous city in Tennessee will host the 2030 Super Bowl, Super Bowl LXIV, which will occur at the conclusion of the 2029 NFL season. This will be the first Super Bowl to take place in the state of Tennessee.
The Tennessee Titans building a new stadium undoubtedly played a large role in Nashville being chosen, as this venue, tentatively named New Nissan Stadium, is scheduled to open for the 2027 NFL season. While this will be Nashville’s first Super Bowl, the National Football League hasn’t shied away from putting on big events in the city. When the league started holding the annual NFL Draft outside of New York City, Nashville was one of the first cities to host the event. That new tradition began in 2015, and Nashville was the fourth location outside of NYC to host the draft, which took place at Lower Broadway in downtown Nashville in 2019.
The NFL announced the news, which had been widely anticipated for months, on Tuesday at the Spring League Meeting in Orlando. The league also referenced both the new stadium and the 2019 draft as key points that went into its decision to select Nashville from a number of bids.
“The 2019 NFL Draft in Nashville was one of the greatest fan events in our history,” Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. “Super Bowl LXIV at the new stadium is the next step in this remarkable football journey. The vision of Amy Adams Strunk and the Tennessee Titans helped make this moment possible. With great partners at the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp. and Tennessee Titans, we can’t wait to put on an unforgettable show in 2030.”
New Nissan Stadium hosting the 2030 Big Game means that each of the next four Super Bowls will take place at four of the league’s five newest stadiums. Next season’s Super Bowl will take place at SoFi Stadium, home of the Rams and Chargers, which opened in 2020. The 2028 Super Bowl will then take place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of the Atlanta Falcons, and that venue opened in 2017. Then in 2029, Allegiant Stadium, which opened in 2020 and is home to the Las Vegas Raiders, will play host.
Only Highmark Stadium, which is the new home of the Buffalo Bills and will open this season, is among the five newest NFL stadiums not to be on the Super Bowl hosting list.
New Nissan Stadium will become the 28th venue to host The Big Game, and Nashville will become the 17th city/region to host the event. Tennessee will become the 12th state to play host.
“We are thrilled that the new Nissan Stadium will host Nashville’s first Super Bowl in 2030,” Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk said. “This is an exciting moment for our city and our entire state. We cannot wait for our community to experience an event of this magnitude and for the world to see the energy, hospitality, and culture that make our city so special on a global stage.”
“Thank you to Commissioner Goodell, my fellow owners, and the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp. for their partnership throughout this process. We look forward to bringing an unforgettable Super Bowl experience to Nashville together,” she said.
While the exact dates for the 2027 and 2028 Super Bowls have been announced and will take place on February 14 and February 13, respectively, the dates beyond that have not yet been announced. If the NFL keeps its current structure of holding the game on the second Sunday of the month, then the 2030 game would occur on February 10.
However, Goodell has openly pushed for the game to coincide with Presidents’ Day Weekend to allow for a holiday after the Super Bowl. If that change gets implemented, then the Nashville Super Bowl will take place on Sunday, Feb. 17.
In addition to New Nissan Stadium hosting the extravaganza, there are also a number of other league-related events that will take place in Nashville come February 2030. The NFL Experience, NFL Honors, Radio Row, and Media Party are expected to be held in the area.
According to the Titans, their practice facility, as well as Vanderbilt’s football facility, could be considered as the practice locations for the two teams that take part in that year’s Super Bowl. Also, the Titans have already sent the league four hotel options to house the two teams, and the NFL will send officials to the city on a regular basis over the next few months to make sure things are in order.
Nashville ranks as the 20th-largest NFL market among the 30 current ones. It is also 22nd in terms of population in its metropolitan area, making it one of the smallest cities to host. However, the league has experienced success with even smaller markets hosting The Big Game, as New Orleans has the league’s second-smallest media market, but no city has hosted more Super Bowls than The Crescent City’s 11 such games.
