King Charles III has been invited to address a joint session of Congress on April 28 during his upcoming trip to the United States.

Charles will be in the United States for a state visit from April 27 to April 30.

The trip will mark the king’s first trip to the United States since he ascended the throne following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in 2022.

“The relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom has evolved into one of the most consequential partnerships in modern history,” the invite released on April 1 reads.

“That close relationship is rooted not merely in shared interests, but—as Queen Elizabeth II told a Joint Meeting of Congress in 1991—in a shared ‘spirit of democracy,’ and a commitment to the fundamental values of individual freedom, consent of the governed, and the rule of law.”

The last U.S. state visit from a British ruler was nearly 20 years ago, when Elizabeth visited in 2007.

“This year, the United States will mark the 250th anniversary of its independence,” the letter reads.

“As we celebrate this historic milestone and recommit ourselves to the principles upon which our nation was founded, we also recognize that the American experiment endures in no small part because of the British tradition from which it sprang.”

Charles is the monarch of the UK and more than a dozen Commonwealth realms.

“We believe an address to Congress will provide a unique opportunity to share your vision for the future of our special relationship and reaffirm our alliance at this pivotal time in history,” the letter reads.

Charles has not yet revealed if he will accept the offer from lawmakers.

The Epoch Times contacted the Royal Communications Team for comment.

The royal visit will come at a time of heightened tensions in the Middle East.

On March 31, U.S. President Donald Trump suggested that if nations, such as the UK, are upset by high fuel prices due to the military operations around the Strait of Hormuz, they should take action.

“You’ll have to start learning how to fight for yourself, the U.S.A. won’t be there to help you anymore, just like you weren’t there for us,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post on March 31.

“Iran has been, essentially, decimated. The hard part is done. Go get your own oil!”

Trump said he greatly respects Charles but has accused British Prime Minister Keir Starmer of jeopardizing the “special relationship” between the countries when he decided not to allow the United States to use British bases during Operation Epic Fury.
