Montreal police are seeking three suspects after a video circulated online showing a mock beheading of an effigy of Quebec Labour Minister Jean Boulet during a May Day protest.

A May Day demonstration was taking place at Montreal’s Place des Festivals when three men decapitated the effigy using a guillotine.

Police are asking for the public’s help to identify the three men shown conducting the mock execution, which occurred at around 2:30 p.m. on May 2, according to a June 4 news release.

Police also released descriptions of the individuals, including the clothing they were wearing.

The man shown cutting the head off the effigy is described as being around 30 years old. He was wearing a beige-brown coat, a black hoodie with an image of a wolf head, black pants, a black beanie with red lettering on the brim, and dark shoes.

A second man, who allegedly kicked the severed head of the effigy, is believed to be in his 40s. He was wearing a black-and-red cap with a white, black, and red diamond-shaped emblem, a denim jacket, an orange shirt, beige pants, and dark boots. He was also wearing black sunglasses and carrying a tool at his waist resembling a power drill.

The third man is also believed to be about 30 and allegedly kicked the severed effigy head. He has dark hair and a moustache and was wearing a dark coat, a black-and-white shirt with a red collar, and black pants with white stripes at the bottom.

Anyone with information or additional images that could assist the investigation is asked to contact 911 or their local neighbourhood police station.

Parti Quebecois Leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon condemned the beheading of the effigy.

“I just saw the images and I am just as disgusted as I am shocked. I demand apologies from the organizers of this demonstration and I invite all the other elected officials of the National Assembly to also demand such apologies,” he wrote on X.
