Australian car dealership billionaire and football club chairman, Nick Politis, has secured a Chinese-made Yangwang U9 Xtreme, an electric “hypercar” that currently holds the title of the world’s fastest production vehicle.
The deal was reached at the 2026 Beijing Motor Show, where the chair of the Sydney Roosters rugby league club centred around Bondi, met with BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu.
They sealed the deal after an earlier conversation with BYD Executive Vice-President Stella Li.
“She mentioned they were making only 30 units of the U9 Xtreme,” Politis said, in comments to media.
“I asked if we could get one for Australia. She said, ‘You want one?’ I said yes—and we shook hands.”

World’s ‘Fastest’ HyperCar
The U9 Xtreme set a new production car top speed record of 496.22 km per hour in 2025, dethroning the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+, which had recorded 490.5 km per hour in 2019, according to CarExpert.
It also lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 6 minutes and 59.157 seconds, a famous track used for testing and developmental drives. The sub-7-minute time makes the U9 Xtreme the fastest electric vehicle on the track.
The car, which Politis has custom-ordered in red and black, matches that of the record-setting model. The vehicle will remain in left-handed drive, but Politis is hopeful to have it registered for Australian roads.
The purchase is estimated to be worth AU$1 million (US$720,000), though Politis said the pricing was a secondary consideration.
“It doesn’t matter how much it costs, because it will be a collector’s item and worth a lot of money.”
The car is expected to be delivered in mid-2027.
Who is Politis’ And What Are His Plans?
Politis is a major Australian business figure and owns about 28 percent of the country’s largest car dealership holding company, the ASX-listed Eagers Automotive.
Eagers was the exclusive dealership for selling BYD’s until this year and sold about 80 percent of the manufacturer’s new vehicles in Australia.
In turn, the Chinese company is the naming-rights sponsorship of the Politis-chaired Sydney Roosters, featuring on the team’s jersey
Regarding the hypercar, Politis said it would be “great marketing.”
“We’ll move it around all our major BYD showrooms, and I’m sure there’ll be people lining up to see it,” Politis said. “To see the fastest car in the world will attract a lot of people and expose them to our BYD products.”
The Epoch Times contacted Eagers Automotive and BYD Australia for comment.
