Bissell Recalls Steam Cleaners in Canada, US Due to Burn Hazard

Bissell has issued a recall notice for more than 1 million of its steam cleaner units after receiving multiple reports of burn injuries in Canada and the United States.

The attachments for the affected steam cleaners can unexpectedly detach from the units and expel hot water or steam onto users during use, which poses a burn hazard, says the recall notice jointly issued by Bissell Canada Corporation, Health Canada, and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on April 9.

The company has received one report of hot water or steam escaping unexpectedly from the attachments in Canada, which resulted in one reported burn injury. In the United States, the company has received 205 reports of the defect, including 160 burn injury reports.

The affected models include the Bissell brand Steam Shot OmniReach and Steam Shot Omni steam cleaners with model numbers 4171B, 4171C, 4171D, 4171H, 4171J, and 4171X.

Bissell sold 95,788 units of the affected products in Canada, and 1,211,522 units in the United States.

The units were sold from October 2024 to March 2026, and were manufactured in China.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled products and contact BISSELL to receive free new attachments,” the recall notice says.

The company says consumers can visit its recall website to register for the recall and to receive instructions on how to participate, including how to upload a photo to provide proof of disposal of the recalled products.

The Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold, or given away in Canada, the notice says.

The recall notice published on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s website lists additional affected models, including 4155, 4155L, 4155W, 4155G, 4155D, 4155J, 4155Y, 4155P, 4171, 4171L, 4171W, and 4171F.

The U.S. notice also says the units were sold at Target, Walmart, and other department and home goods stores across the country, as well as online at Bissell.com, Amazon.com, HSN.com, and other websites. The units had a price tag of between US$9 and $55.
