The NBA lockout took a turn for the worse on Tuesday night, as the NBA Players Association filed an antitrust complaint against the NBA in Minnesota according to the Associated Press. A similar suit was also scheduled to be filed in California.
The lawsuit claims that the lockout, “constitutes an illegal group boycott, price-fixing agreement, and/or restraint of trade in violation of the Sherman Act” and also argues that the final proposal by the owners, “wiped out the competitive market for most NBA players.”
The action came as no surprise to the NBA who filed a motion of their own in New York hoping to prove legal validity for the lockout.
The 2011-12 NBA season has not been ruled dead by Commissioner David Stern, but it had been officially canceled through December 15.
