Disney Channel Actress Carla Jeffery, Known for ‘Zombies’ Franchise, Dies at 33

Actress Carla Jeffery, best known for her role in the popular Disney Channel “Zombies” franchise, has died at 33.

Jeffery died on Sept. 1, according to a statement shared by her talent management team on Wednesday. An immediate cause of death was not publicly disclosed.

“Our hearts are broken as we mourn the loss of our beloved Carla Jeffery,” read the Instagram post. “For more than 20 years, Carla was part of the Alexanders Talent Management family.”

“Watching her grow from a talented young girl into the beautiful, vibrant woman and actress she became was an incredible privilege.”

Born in 1993 in Houston, Jeffery began pursuing acting as a child. She made her film debut in the 2006 comedy “Phat Girlz,” appearing alongside comedian and actress Mo’Nique.

She went on to build a diverse television résumé, making appearances in popular programs including “iCarly,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Southland,” “Good Luck Charlie” and “Shake It Up.”

“We will remember her infectious smile, her laughter, her talent, and the beautiful light she carried everywhere she went,” wrote her management team.

“Our deepest love and condolences are with Carla’s family and loved ones. We ask that their privacy be respected during this incredibly difficult time.”

Jeffery became a familiar face for Disney Channel audiences after joining the cast of “Zombies,” where she played Bree, a cheerleader in the 2018 musical comedy about humans and zombies attending the same high school.

She reprised the role in “Zombies 2” (2020) and “Zombies 3” (2022). Jeffery also voiced Bree in “Zombies: The Re-Animated Series,” continuing with the franchise beyond the original trilogy.

Other television credits include “Scream Queens,” “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” and “American Vandal,” as well as guest show appearances.

After news of Jeffery’s death broke, tributes began pouring in from former castmates, colleagues, and fans. Chandler Kinney, who worked with Jeffery on “Zombies,” remembered her as a positive presence whose personality helped shape the character of Bree.

“This doesn’t feel real,” wrote Kinney alongside a photo of the two on Instagram. “Carla, the sweetest, most sparkly gal. You made every day better and brighter with your infectious positivity.”

Jeffery’s twin brother, actor Carlon Jeffery, best-known for playing Cameron Parks on Disney Channel’s “A.N.T. Farm,” remembered his sister as a shining bright light and expressed gratitude for the bond they shared.

“You are the best sister a brother could ask for,” he wrote on Instagram. “Pray we continue to grow closer to one another along this journey. I got your back in this life and the next.”
