Shia LaBeouf was taken into custody early Tuesday in New Orleans following an alleged confrontation during Mardi Gras festivities in the city’s French Quarter.

The New Orleans Police Department said officers responded shortly before 1 a.m. to reports of a disturbance at a business in the area. Authorities alleged that LaBeouf became increasingly aggressive inside the establishment and was asked to leave by an employee.

Police said that once outside, the actor allegedly struck one man several times with closed fists. Investigators said witnesses reported that LaBeouf briefly left but later returned to the scene, where tensions escalated again.

“Multiple individuals attempted to restrain him, releasing him in hopes he would leave,” police said. Two men told police that LaBeouf struck them. The actor was ultimately held at the scene until officers arrived.

He was later charged with two counts of simple battery.

Video published by TMZ shows LaBeouf shirtless as emergency responders appear to treat him following the reported incident. The footage does not capture the altercation itself. Authorities said he was transported to a local hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries and, after being released, was formally arrested.

The latest charges add to a legal history that has unfolded publicly over more than a decade.

In 2014, LaBeouf was arrested during a performance of “Cabaret” at Studio 54 in New York City. He was charged with disorderly conduct, criminal trespass, and harassment after authorities said he disrupted the show. He later pleaded guilty to a reduced disorderly conduct charge.

Three years later, he was arrested in New York on allegations of public drunkenness and disorderly conduct in an incident that was livestreamed. That case was followed by court-ordered rehabilitation. Months afterward, while filming “The Peanut Butter Falcon” in Georgia, he was arrested again on charges including disorderly conduct and obstruction. He later pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct and received probation.

In 2020, LaBeouf faced misdemeanor battery and petty theft charges in Los Angeles.

Now 39, LaBeouf first entered the public eye as a child performer on the Disney Channel series “Even Stevens,” earning a Daytime Emmy Award for his role. He later transitioned into major film franchises, starring in several “Transformers” movies starting in 2007 and appearing in 2008’s “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.”

Beyond blockbuster roles, he has also taken on independent film projects, including 2019’s “Honey Boy,” a semi-autobiographical drama that he wrote.

Born in Los Angeles, LaBeouf has remained active in film and theater. He shares a daughter, born in 2022, with actress Mia Goth.
