“Rich Kid,” a heartwarming underdog dramedy, will premiere exclusively on Gan Jing World on Nov. 25, offering audiences a charming tale of identity, parent-child pressure, and triumph.

Produced by Canada’s JadeRose Film and TV Inc., the movie’s tagline—”Your net worth is not equal to your self-worth”—sets the tone for a message about self-acceptance amid social pressure.

At the center of the story is Ethan Young, a math prodigy whose life is upended when his wealthy, strict father sends him to a public high school.

“Thrown for a loop, Ethan must hide his privileged past, fit into an unfamiliar world, and—against all odds—rally his new school’s underdog economics club to victory,” states the film’s description on GJW.

“’Rich Kid’ is a story that tells a relatable tale regardless of age, gender, or ethnicity about the all-too-often strained relationships based on expectations set by our parents—while exploring themes of social stratification, coming of age, and self-acceptance,” the film’s creative team states.

Director and writer Kacey Cox hopes the movie will resonate with audiences.

“Centered on the struggles of a teenager trying to forge his own path within the backdrop of his father’s wealth and success, I believe that ‘Rich Kid’ will strike a chord with audiences through its universal themes, lightheartedness, and campy tone,” Cox said.

Early praise includes recognition from Asian Film Buff Blog, which called it: “A fun and heartwarming underdog tale.”

JadeRose Film and TV Inc., based in Winnipeg, Canada, is known for producing family-friendly content that reflects both Asian diaspora experiences and universal audiences.

GJW+ will host the exclusive streaming release through subscription or single-title rental. The GJW+ platform, operated by Gan Jing World, offers more than 10,000 titles spanning movies, documentaries, and TV shows, content it describes as “entertaining, inspiring, thought-provoking, and multilingual.”

“Gan Jing World is an independent social media and video streaming platform guided by its mission, ‘Technology for Humanity’—leveraging technology to promote kindness, respect, trust, and traditional values,” states its website, which also highlights its “nonaddictive algorithm.”

“It values freedom of speech, protects privacy, and delivers wholesome and safe content.”
