US Seizes Olina Tanker in the Caribbean; Trump Cancels Second Wave of Attacks on Venezuela

The U.S. Southern Command confirmed on X that the United States has seized oil tanker Olina in the Caribbean Sea without incident. The United States imposed sanctions on the Olina in January last year, when it was named the Minerva M, calling it part of a shadow fleet of ships that sail with little regulation or known insurance.

President Donald Trump wrote in a Truth Social post on Jan. 9 that he canceled a second wave of attacks on Venezuela following cooperation from the South American nation. Trump said Venezuela ​​​​​​​started releasing a large number of foreign and Venezuelan political prisoners on Jan. 9, calling it a sign of “keeping peace.” Trump called the prisoner release “a very important and smart gesture.”
