U.S. and Iran to Halt Attacks and Continue Talks; Johnson Confident Trump Will Sign Housing Bill | NTD Good Morning (June 29)
The United States and Iran agreed to cease attacks over the control of the Strait of Hormuz, as a fragile ceasefire is tested. President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social on Monday, saying that Iran has requested a meeting with U.S. officials, which is set to take place on Tuesday in Doha, Qatar. U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz also warned Iran that Trump’s “patience isn’t going to last forever.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson says he’s sending a bipartisan housing affordability bill to Trump on Monday. Johnson said he’s spoken to the president and expects him to sign the measure into law. The legislation passed with overwhelming bipartisan support, clearing the Senate 85–5 and the House 358–32. The bill combines more than 60 proposals to expand affordable housing, increase mortgage access, and reduce regulatory barriers.
Canada opened the World Cup knockout stage with a 1–0 victory over South Africa on Sunday, becoming the first nation to advance to the round of 16, with a dramatic late goal from midfielder Stephen Eustáquio. The game marked Canada’s first-ever trip beyond the group stage of the World Cup.
