Mike Johnson Visiting 22 States in Final Midterm Sprint; Largest Steel Plant in US Coming to Iowa | NTD Good Morning (Sept. 29)

Election Day is just five weeks away, and Republicans are hoping to keep control of the House through the end of President Donald Trump’s term. Such a case has not happened since 2002. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-La.) is trying to turn that around by kicking off a 22-state blitz, where he plans to campaign in Democrat held districts. Johnson says he’s confident that the trend of Democratic Socialists of America-backed candidates will help boost the Republicans’ chances of keeping control of the House.

President Donald Trump announced on Monday that the largest steel mill in the United States will be opening in Iowa. There will be $15 billion in investments going into this mill, and the White House said that this new project could create more than 1,700 permanent jobs and 6,000 construction jobs. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick doubled down on this newest investment, saying that it was only made possible by tariffs.

The Senate passed the Protect College Sports Act on Tuesday night, a sweeping bill that would establish nationwide rules for college athletics. The bill was sponsored by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and would create a nationwide standard for name, image, and likeness rules and exempt the NCAA from antitrust laws. It would allow athletes five seasons of eligibility within five years and limit them to one transfer during their college careers. Trump says the Act will save not only college sports, but also the colleges themselves.
