Nearly 51,000 Illegal Immigrants Arrested in August: DHS; Trump: Communism Never Worked | NTD Good Morning (Sept. 3)

President Donald Trump on Wednesday said Republicans will beat Democrats in the November midterms, adding that communism never worked.

“They were supposed to hit socialism and then go communist,” Trump said during a Rose Garden dinner. “But they skipped socialism. They went right down to the bottom, and the bottom is communism, and it’s never worked under different names.”

Federal immigration authorities arrested nearly 51,000 illegal immigrants throughout the United States in August, a record for a single month, the Department of Homeland Security said Wednesday.

The total of 50,925 caps a steady three-month growth in Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrests, surpassing June and July totals of 43,900 and 50,208, respectively.

Some U.S. lawmakers are standing in solidarity with Joshua Wong, a prominent figure in Hong Kong’s pro-democracy movement. Wong now faces an additional prison term after his second conviction on Wednesday under a draconian Beijing-imposed national security law.

The Select Committee on China said in a post on X that Wong, set to be released in 2027, was already imprisoned on a baseless charge.

“Now, the CCP is keeping him behind bars even longer on yet another baseless charge,” the committee wrote. “Joshua must not be allowed to languish in prison. He must be released immediately.”

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in a Sept. 2 post on X that his prosecution is an appalling abuse of power.

“Everyone who truly cares about democracy should be proud to stand with him and the people of Hong Kong,” Pelosi said. “Advocacy for freedom is not a crime and the international community must immediately demand his release.”
