Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected the Board of Peace’s plan for Gaza, underscoring growing differences over how and when to implement the proposed ceasefire framework. Netanyahu says Israel is discussing the plan with the United States, but only some of the proposals are acceptable to his government. U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal calls for Hamas to disarm in phases, with Israeli forces withdrawing as an international stabilization force and a new Palestinian police force take over security.

U.S. President Donald Trump says that the United States is “low-keying” its approach to negotiations with Iran, suggesting that economic pressure on Tehran is starting to take hold. In a phone call to Axios, the president said the Iranian economy is in bad shape and that Tehran no longer has enough money to pay its troops.

Before leaving on Saturday morning, senators in a last-minute sprint confirmed Todd Blanche as U.S. attorney general. Blanche was confirmed in a 50–49 vote in the early hours of Aug. 8, with Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) voting in opposition. The deciding vote was cast by Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.), who announced on Aug. 7 that he believed that Blanche was the best option that Trump would put forward.
