Darline Graham Wins SC GOP Senate Runoff; Dolly Parton Dead at 80 | NTD Good Morning (Aug. 26)

Sen. Darline Graham (R-S.C.) on Tuesday defeated Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) in the South Carolina Republican Senate runoff for the seat held by the late Sen. Lindsay Graham. The Trump-backed candidate won with about 52.4 percent of the vote to Norman’s 47.6 percent, with 91 percent of the votes counted, when The Associated Press called the race at 9:01 p.m. Graham will face off against Democratic nominee Dr. Annie Andrews in November.

Country music legend Dolly Parton passed away on Tuesday at the age of 80. According to a statement from her publicist, Parton died in Nashville after a brief battle with cancer. She wrote and performed hundreds of songs, including “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” and “I Will Always Love You.” The White House lowered the U.S. flag to half-staff in her honor, while New York’s Empire State Building was lit up in pink.

The Trump administration has paused visa appointments for applicants worldwide as the State Department launches a global training initiative at all U.S. embassies and consulates. The department has not said how long the adjustment period will last. Immigrant visa applicants with scheduled interviews have been contacted about changes to their appointments.
