Trump Declares Economic Warfare on Iran; Trump Says Canada Tariff Deal Is Near | NTD Good Morning (Aug. 20)
President Donald Trump has declared an “economic D-Day” against Iran, as diplomatic efforts with the regime in Tehran stutter.
The president said on social media that any foreign countries allowing their financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities to provide any type of lifeline to Iran will face “TREMENDOUS Economic Consequences.” The president didn’t name any offenders, but said that such nations “know who they are.”
U.S. and Canadian trade officials met on Wednesday after Trump delayed a planned 50 percent tariff on Canadian goods. The negotiators now face a new Saturday deadline.
Tariffs on about $20 billion of Canadian goods are scheduled to take effect if there is no deal. Trump says the deal would also eliminate tariffs paid by American farmers exporting to Canada.
A Chinese national has been charged with voter fraud in Massachusetts. The Justice Department said he submitted a fraudulent voter registration and ballot by impersonating another Chinese national. He faces up to five years in prison for each charge of fraudulent registration and fraudulent voting, and will be deported afterward.
