Trump Imposes Tariffs on 60 Countries; 6 House Democrats Break Ranks on Defense Bill | NTD Good Morning (July 24)

The Trump administration is imposing new tariffs on imports from 60 trading partners. The duties take effect as temporary global tariffs expire. The administration says these countries, including some in the European Union, have failed to enforce bans on forced labor. The administration says the tariffs cover countries that account for 99 percent of U.S. imports. But they include several exemptions including oil and gas, fertilizer, food items, and products already covered by national security tariffs, like cars, steel, aluminum, and copper.

Six House Democrats this week voted with Republicans to approve the 2027 National Defense Bill, despite strong pushback from party leadership over the Iran war. The $1.5 trillion bill passed on July 22, coming after the same bill was blocked by Senate Democrats. While the Senate is expected to strip out the SAVE America Act, Republicans are moving ahead with the measure in a party-line approach.

President Donald Trump said a major nuclear cooperation deal with Saudi Arabia depends on the kingdom joining the Abraham Accords and normalizing ties with Israel. The White House said the goal is expanding peace and stability across the Middle East. Trump said the deal does not include nuclear enrichment and is limited to peaceful uses and still requires congressional approval.
