Death Toll in Nepal Floods Crosses 500; CENTCOM: Strait of Hormuz Cleared of Iranian Mines | NTD Good Morning (Aug. 28)

The death toll from devastating floods in Nepal has topped 500, according to Nepalese police, with 1,500 still missing as rescue efforts continue. The State Department says it’s also working with Nepalese authorities to locate Americans who may have been caught in the floods. Officials say about 90 U.S. citizens currently remain unaccounted for.

CENTCOM Commander Brad Cooper says that after months of work by Navy divers, Navy SEALs, and U.S. air power, the Strait of Hormuz has now been successfully cleared of sea mines laid down by the Iranian regime. U.S. forces have also helped nearly 1,500 commercial vessels carrying about 750 million barrels of crude oil transit the strait over the last few months.

President Donald Trump says Russian President Vladimir Putin will not expand the conflict by attacking NATO countries. This follows a surprise visit of CIA Director John Ratcliffe to Moscow, where he warned Russia not to attack NATO countries. Russia also warned that France and the United Kingdom were “playing with fire,” saying the nations could face unpredictable consequences for “trying to dodge responsibility for deep strikes into Russia by shifting the assembly role to Ukraine.”
