Trump: China Has to Make a Deal or US Will ‘Set the Deal’; FDA Bans 2 Artificial Food Dyes | NTD Good Morning (Apr. 23)
President Donald Trump warned China that it has to make a deal with the United States or the United States will “set the deal.” Trump criticized China for taking advantage of and destroying the United States and is maintaining his position of using tariffs to deal with China’s unfair trade practices. China responded with new threats this week, retaliating against countries that co-operate with the United States on isolating China. There is no sign as yet as to whether Trump has spoken directly with China’s Xi Jinping.
The Food and Drug Administration is banning two synthetic food dyes, Citrus Red No. 2 and Orange B, and plans to eliminate more by 2026. FDA Commissioner Marty Makary says chemical additives may be fueling rising rates of chronic disease in kids. He urged companies to use natural alternatives such as beet juice. NTD sat down with Dr. David Shaker of Shaker Medical Group to discuss what this ban means and what people can do to make healthier food choices.
Catholics gathered in St. Peter’s Square this morning to mourn the death of Pope Francis at the basilica. Francis’s body will lie in state for three days before his funeral on Saturday. The basilica will be kept open until midnight on Wednesday and Thursday, and the viewing will end on Friday at 7 p.m. local time. Various world leaders plan to attend the Pope’s funeral, including Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
