Trump Stands Firm on Canada, Mexico Tariffs; Trump and Macron Meet to Discuss Peace in Ukraine | NTD Good Morning (Feb. 25)

President Donald Trump has said tariffs on Canada and Mexico are moving forward as planned, despite a temporary pause for border security talks. He’s also pushing for the construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline, promising easy approvals and permitting. Meanwhile, an email demanding federal employees list their recent work accomplishments is sparking debate. Trump lauded the message, while some lawmakers are raising concerns.

Trump met with French President Emmanuel Macron in Washington on Monday. The two leaders agreed that a deal to end the Russia–Ukraine war must be reached soon but have differing views on security guarantees for Ukraine and post-war reconstruction. NTD spoke with Steve Yates, a senior fellow for national security policy at The Heritage Foundation, to discuss Europe’s involvement in bringing peace to Ukraine.

House Republicans are facing a major test this week, with members of the House expected to vote on Tuesday on the House budget resolution. Republicans currently hold a very slim majority in the House, and it’s also unclear how much support the bill has, with some lawmakers voicing concerns over potential cuts to Medicaid.
