Epstein Associate Ghislaine Maxwell Meets With DOJ Officials

Former Jeffrey Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell has met with Department of Justice (DOJ) officials as the agency seeks to learn what Maxwell knows.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said on X that he met with Maxwell on July 24 and that he would meet with her again on Friday.

“The Department of Justice will share additional information about what we learned at the appropriate time,” Blanche said.

Other officials attending the meeting included acting Associate Deputy Attorney General Diego Pestana.

Blanche had previously said that the DOJ was contacting Maxwell to figure out whether she “has information about anyone who has committed crimes against victims.”

Maxwell for years was an associate of Epstein, a convicted sex offender who had multiple homes in the United States. Epstein also owned an island in the U.S. Virgin Islands and at least one residence abroad.

Federal officials alleged in court documents in a case that was brought against Epstein in 2019 that he sexually abused dozens of underage girls at his homes in New York and Florida, among other locations.

Epstein committed suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial, authorities confirmed.

Maxwell was charged with participating in a conspiracy to entice minors to participate in illegal sex acts and is serving a 20-year sentence that was handed down in 2022.

‘Productive Day’

David Oscar Markus, a lawyer representing Maxwell, told reporters in Tallahassee, Florida, where Thursday’s meeting took place, that it was “a very productive day.”

Blanche “took a full day and asked a lot of questions, and Ms. Maxwell answered every single question,” he said. “She never stopped, she never invoked a privilege, she never declined to answer, she answered all the questions truthfully, honestly and to the best of her ability. And that’s all the comment we’re going to have today about the meeting.”

When asked whether there was a possibility that Maxwell’s prison sentence could be reduced or that she could receive a pardon, Markus said that “there’s no promises yet.”

President Donald Trump told reporters in Washington on Friday that he was aware that the meeting between DOJ officials and Maxwell was taking place.

When questioned about possibly pardoning Maxwell, the president said that he could pardon Maxwell but that it’s something he hasn’t thought about.
