MIDDLETOWN, N.Y.—Middletown Cinemas recently held the North American premiere of the animated movie “Mina,” the first original production by the Middletown-based social media and video-sharing platform Ganjing World (GJW).
Many families attended the movie premiere on Aug. 30, which included a children’s costume competition and speakers from GJW.
The movie will be streaming exclusively on GJW+ on Sept. 12.
The movie is about a rebellious princess, Mina, who is kidnapped by an evil sorcerer who has been targeting princesses. Her father promises that whoever can rescue her can have his daughter’s hand in marriage and inherit the kingdom. While her suitors and the scholar Ronan, whom she has promised to marry, venture into the unknown to rescue her, Mina and the other captured princesses take their rescue into their own hands.
The film “embodies many of the values we want kids to enjoy,” GJW CEO Sherry Yin told The Epoch Times. “For example, Mina, I think, is a really independent girl and with a lot of resilience.”
“Mina” will stream on Ganjing Kids, a new division of Ganjing World that aims to provide child-friendly content without addictive or exploitative algorithms.
“Nowadays, there’s real concern about kids’ digital consumption,” Yin said. “And [social media have] caused many problems in terms of addictive behavior and mental health.”

The family-friendly fairy tale is 94 minutes long.
Film review website Animation for Adults said of the film: “It deserves better than to be written off as another Disney wannabe.
“It has a feel all … its own and there are some great sight gags and slapstick sequences.
“It’s entertaining for audiences of all ages. … For some kids out there, this is going to be a new favorite film.”
